Hello - I am playing around with different hybrid wood/epoxy castings and wanted to color the burl I am using. I am using Alumilite Clear and used an acrylic paint. I made sure to let the paint dry before casting. In this example there is air on both the painted and unpainted wood, but I was able to pre-heat a similar piece and the bubbles went away on the unpainted wood. Should I not use acrylic paint? I figure this would be similar to some of the plastic objects I've seen people embed. I am welcome any suggestions or thoughts! Thanks.

Wood pre-heated before epoxy. No bubbles on wood but still over paint.

Acrylic paint is what you're supposed to use but since it did that, I'm wondering if it may have needed a bit of sealing first. You might want to try a "painted on" layer of the Clear, let that cure then embed them and that should give you no bubbles. Personally, I like both as is - the bubbles look like waves to me but that's just me and you probably had a specific look you wanted which they don't match and I know that will frustrate me when that kind of thing happens.

That looks like entrained air to me. You'll need to use a pressure pot, or degas the resin just before pouring with a vacuum chamber. I think pressure works better.

Funny you mention the waves because I am actually doing a boat in a bottle type project and that is how I am explaining away the bubbles for now
