Hi folks;
Long time since I was at the forum ( I see it is a new forum - I was a member of the old one ) - By the way, hats off to the crew at Alumilite. I have used many products of yours over the years. Most of the time I have great results ( Screw ups were at my end ) Great service from you folks and I love dealing with a company in my home state. Always happy to buy direct rather than some re-seller who may have older stock.
Now to my reason for this post. I have been working on creating some dummy security cameras for a great lady in her 70's who runs a non-profit donation center but has run into some issues with a few guests from time to time at her place. Hence my idea to create the cameras for her as she can't afford the real thing -nor fake ones. (Cameras are 90% Alumilite castings)
In making these cameras, I used up the last of my RC3 so I decided to give some 80D a shot as I have never used this before, so just placed my order this weekend. I use primarily epoxy glue (clear) to bond my parts I cast. My question is will the 80D bond with epoxy glue - These are static parts so I don't have a concern about any flexing as such.
By the way - Just a tip on superglue use. If you ever need to seal a hollow dome or enclosure over castings or any other items, NEVER USE SUPERGLUE. After retiring from 25 years in law enforcement, I should have known better - But In assembling of one of my first cameras I sealed a clear dome over my cast camera parts and used Superglue. For those not acquainted with law enforcement, we use superglue to fume fingerprints. Hence the superglue fumed inside my camera dome and put (Permanent) white residue of prints, etc all inside of my dome and on the castings. Superglue ok to bond parts as a rule, but not in enclosed dome or box.
(Just as a footnote to the use of clear epoxy glue - Alumilite dye works well with these clear glues - just mix in very sparingly as you would with resin. I used red dye and craft glitter mixed with epoxy glue to create a semi transparent simulated ring of IR LEDs around the lens for my cameras )
PS: In closing, if you are of a spiritual type, please say a silent prayer for the lady ( Linda ) who runs the donation center. She has battled & beat cancer a few times in the past, but needs to go under the knife again later this month. Thank you.
Bruce
