I'm trying to make model car tires Flex 40 with black color dye as the cast material. Mold is 3D printed acrylic resin (Formlabs).
PDF instructions mention using baby powder on the mold, but mold release Stoner is also mentioned. Do I use both or just one? If both then what would be the application procedure?
The mold does have small details in the tire tread and the tires are about one and a quarter inch diameter.
I would guess the Stoner would be applied first, but don't know if the powder can be applied over it.

Flat32,
Powder can be used if the Mold is silicone, it would not work well for an acrylic resin mold. You would need the Stoner and you would need to make sure that stoner gets down in to the small details or it may bond. Silicone molds work best for tire molds as opposed to a rigid mold as you can flex it to release the resin easier. It is not as imperative that you get the release down in the tiny detailed recesses of the mold... as silicone only bonds to another silicone, urethane's bond to everything but silicone.
Warmest Regards,
Carol

Thanks for the response. Silicone mold is not feasible, but perhaps I should be looking at making the tire in silicone instead of urethane. Do you have a silicone product that would be similar hardness and black.
Thanks,
Ray

Ray,
We have the HS1 Silicone that is about a 40A durometer that could be used as a tire for model. We don't readily yet sell dye for silicone. If you would like to call me I can check on getting a silicone dye for you to use and then yes that would/should work just fine.
