So I'm trying to figure out how to make a mold and then cast a controller shell (at the moment and nintendo gamecbue controller shell). I was on youtube and browsing this forum for a while and I have a basic understanding of how to make a mold and then cast in terms of resins. However I would like to make this out of plastic. So I need to figure out if I can use silicon for plastic casting or do I need a different material to make the mold out of and then how to cast plastic in said mold. I also need to figure out how what different grades of plastic there are and how to make said grade. And finally, this may be answered in the how to aquire plastic question) but how one would get a high grade clear plastic and what material/chemicals are used to color the clear plastic/change the opacity. Any help is appreciated! If there is a book on this stuff that would be great as well!

Burnm3w,
Alumilite is a casting plastic, the molds would be made out of the silicone. The clear resins do need to be degassed or they will have some air bubbles Burnm3w. We have several colors of dyes to change the color and remain translucent... we do have opaque resins that can be tinted with the same dyes for the clear. For the record we consider all of our resins high grade Burnm3w. None are less then others, they just have different technical specifications to meet the intended application that one maybe looking for.
If you would like to call me, I would be happy to explain all the different silicone's we have and casting resins to help you make your decision on what to use for your application. I can also direct you where to go to get the degassing equipment you will need for casting clear resins. On the website next to the clear resins there is a technical data sheet telling all about (all of our products have these technical data sheets) how to use the clear resin, a very informative tutorial on the clear.
If there is anything at all we can do to help here please let us know. You can call at 800-447-9344
Have a great day.
Warmest Regards,
Carol
