In typical fashion I always seem to bite off more than I can chew as they say. I'm currently working on a motorcycle project. I have a little bit of experience on mold making and casting on very small objects , I molded and cast my own clear brake lens for a brake light. I wanted to get some advice to see if what I'm trying to accomplish is even possible . I have an aluminum finned primary cover ( see attached photo ) that I would like to create a mold off and the cast in clear resin to obtain something similar to the second picture attached. I know the clear primary in the second picture was made by hand with basic hand tools out of thick clear Lucite material . I know I could have these parts machined or CNC'D out of clear Lucite but need to keep cost in mind . I appreciate any feedback and direction to see if this is even something that can be done with Alumilte products . thank you, Tom Attachments:

Tom,
The lens is not an issue, people have replicated lenses very similar to that one many times. There is a good tutorial on the Alumilite site making lenses with equipment and a tutorial for those (to minimize bubbles) who do not have degassing equipment. Tom you stated that you have done lenses so I don't know that there is anything in that tutorial that you may need, just wanted to let you know it's there. On the second piece, yes in theory this can be done...but might need to be thicker than the aluminum one. I don't think we should be worried about excessive heat but I would worry about it softening too much.
Please give us a call if you have anything else we can assist you with if you would like Tom.
Regards,
Carol
