Hi, I am using the clear cast resin with the yellow mold putty, and having some issues.
Whenever I have used your resin before, I have used flexible plastic molds that I got from Amazon. Almost like a tupperware consistency.
My resin comes out smooth and just how I want it. I recently got the Alumilite Amazing Mold Putty Kit so I could make molds of my polymer clay work and also for resin projects. To test it out, I made a mold of a smooth plastic cap, so it would make a small pond type thing. I poured my resin, put in little fish I made, did my usual thing. Lighter for the bubbles, etc. Cured evenly, except the part of the resin that came in contact with the actual mold is rough. It is rough to touch, and cloudy. But only on the surfaces that touched the mold. The top part, that didn’t contact the mold, is clear, bubble free, and slick to touch, like it should be.
I made another one to make sure. And it came out the same. Rough on the bottom and sides but normal on top.
I read something somewhere about this particular brand making greasy or oily molds that could do that to resin? I can’t find where I read that but I remember someone suggesting baking the mold to remove the moisture and someone else said to soak it in alcohol. I am soaking my mold right now but not sure exactly if it will even work, or how long to soak.
I don't know anything about release agents or their purpose, so if that is what I need to use, please educate me!
Would love some input!! Thank you. And sorry if this is beginner’s stuff and has been discussed before. I haven’t been able to find info anywhere!
