Hi, this is my first time working with Alumilite products. I have a one piece mold created using Amazing mold putty that also contains a stainless steel shaft that creates a pivot point in the part, which wasn't really part of my plan but there it is. I will be pouring your RC3 resin and i am concerned about the SS not releasing. I live remotely and so i cant just run out to the store or even the post office, not to mention im already way behind in producing this part. I need to know a good release agent for the stainless steel that wont interfere with the RC3 that might be a common household product such as vaseline, an oil, shoe polish or some such thing. Waiting for a proper release agent to arrive just isnt an option as i needed the part cast last week. What do you suggest?

Dear Yosecretsquirrel,
I'd use Wax and then a thin layer of Vaseline. You must also make sure there are absolutely "no" undercuts or mechanical locks that would prevent it from locking on to the part.
IF they ever stuck, you could put them in boiling water for 5 minutes which would soften the RC-3 and I believe it'd peel off pretty easily. I highly doubt it will stick though if you use both the wax/vaseline.
Have a wonderful day!
Regards,
Carol

Thanks Carol. I got brave and tried straight Vaseline while waiting for your reply. The way I designed the mold, the SS part would be removable without ruining the mold so I thought it worth the risk. In this case it worked well because I am not concerned with the finish. It did stick once because I didn't apply enough but released with a bit of coaxing. Overall I'm pleased with the results and the products, although I wish the molding putty had more working time. I probably should have gone with the liquid silicone, but after 3 attempts i finally got a reasonable mold. I'm glad the putty sticks to its self as that allowed me to modify the mold as I went. Thanks for the tip about boiling water as well, that was relevant to the service of the parts as well. All in all, I rate these products as Amazingly awesome! Thanks again.

You are most welcome! I am glad it all worked out for you and thank you for the kinds words. We do have a Putty that is a 15 minute open time, but I think for the most part if it is a large or more complex piece (some applications excluded) it is just as easy to use a liquid silicone mold if you can wait out the 24 hour cure schedule.
Have a wonderful day! By the way ... a good part of the success of the the Amazing Products is the talent of our Amazingly "Awesome" Customers!
Regards,
Carol
