Life2Short1971,
Using a Platinum cure silicone works best when using the Clear systems. With tin sometimes there can be uncured tin on the surface that can contaminate the clear casting, however usually that can be overcome by mold preparation. (Platinum does need to be degassed).
There are some preparations you can do to help the resin (not just the Clears) cure more uniformly and enhance physical properties. Warm the molds (120F) prior to pouring the resin, no release, or fillers in the mold prior to warming in microwave!!! If you are pouring Urethane resin into anything but silicone, typically a release is needed. The nature of the beast on resin is it bonds to everything but silicone. Some who are turning use a cutting board or other types of molds. We then recommend using something like our Stoner Mold Release... however mold releases may leave witness marks on the surface, so we recommend testing your surface prior to doing your custom parts.
There is a calculating volume formula under the technical information on the site that will help you in determining how much silicone you will need for the various sizes of molds you are going to make and the resin it would take to create the replica.
Next to the products we have on the website, the SDS and Technical Data Sheet are listed next to each product. The TDS has a lot of great information on technical specifications along with tips, tricks, and techniques in using each of them.
Have a great day.
Regards,
Carol
