I purchased the two part Amazing Mold Putty in hopes to get away from having to sand my resin pieces every time they came out fogged from using clay molds but, after using this product I have had yet the same issue. Even after thoroughly cleaning the molds the problem persists, is there any way to prevent this? Hoping to have nice clear, glossy resin pieces soon!

Jiji,
Silicone gives you what you give it... Great detail, it picks up perfection and imperfection, also texture and finish. In order to create a mold that will give you that optically water clear replica or that shiny piece, the original must be high sheen/glossy, or polished. You can spray paint the original with a high gloss paint, and/or polish it to achieve that finish.
Over time as the mold starts to deplete the silicone oils and is on the way out of mold life, you could start getting a haze/matte finish look. Always good to keep a high gloss original on hand so when it comes time to make a new mold.
Have a great Day Jiji.
Warmest Regards,
Carol

I know it probably depends on many factors, but what could be expected of the useful life of a silicone mold?

As you said Zoltan there are many variables. Whether a mold release is used, what silicone you use, the undercuts, the usage (does the mold get any rest between the pours from the heat of the resin), how long is the resin in the mold, there are alot of things to take under consideration determining a mold life. That is why it can be a big window, that window being in tin cure system from 20-60, the average being 40ish. Platinum cure systems do typically have a longer mold life, more of an industrial grade silicone, (still variables) 40-100, average 60ish.
There are things you can do to extend your mold life, removing casting as soon as they are cured enough to do so (depending on which resin used), use Stoner or UMR mold release, do Silicone oil treatments in between usage of molds, storing the molds in clean, dry places. Please see a complete list on the FAQ'S and Technical Date Sheets we have listed on our site for all of our products.
Have a wonderful day Zoltan.

My favorite for the longest lasting high gloss finish out a silicone rubber mold is our Plat 55. It is recommended that you degas or pressure cast it as it is a little thicker than many of our other silicones however the mold life and strengths are very good.
Carol mentioned other things that will help ... mold release, removing the cast pieces shortly into the demold time ... but the most important thing is to make sure you are making a mold of a piece that has super high gloss. This way the liquid silicones will reproduce that super high gloss when you cast your resin pieces.
