New caster here. I was wondering if I should, or need to, use mold release when creating a mold. I’m using the Amazing mold maker.

Actually the absolute rule of silicone is that silicone does not stick to anything other than silicone. BUT there are always times (once in a blue moon) that the silicone doesn't obey that rule and stick to something - case in point, I just made a mold of HS-2 and parts of the sides stuck to a couple spot of the corrugated plastic box sides. Now it does depend on what you're making the mold of - if you're not sure and the item will handle it without getting messed up you can always use a very thin coat of Vaseline or even cooking spray.
Now Amazing Mold Maker shouldn't have that problem but again, if you're not sure you can always use a thin coat of some kind of release. Now if you're making a mold of chocolate, hard candy, or gummies (I've done that), then you won't need anything as those are things that can be washed off with warm soapy water. Unbaked clay, I would use cooking spray or a release spray just to be on the safe side. Plastic or resin, I'd use the Vaseline and a brush just to be safe. It's just a matter of what you casting a mold of and how much clean up the mold and design item afterwards you don't mind doing - the mold can go in warm soapy water to remove the release and the design item can be cleaned up depending on what it is.
I hope this helps.

I make silicone Parts in silicone molds. The mold release I use most is 1/3 dish soap 2/3 rubbing alcohol. Some silicones stick to each other poorly and some are really hard to keep from sticking. Test with a small sample first.
