I had some 80D left over from earlier in the year so I decided to give it a try on my latest project.
I'm doing a double pour into an open mold, then placing the top half on the bottom half of the mold.
In the first pour, I'm mixing 20 ml of resin and adding some gold dust. This is poured into two cavities of the mold to make part of finished part gold. I mixes up 10 ml of each part A and B. Poured it and started working on the main resin. The second pour consists of 180 ml of resin (90 each) and 10 drops of black dye. As I mixed the large batch of 80D, I noticed the gold resin had blown up with air and was about 1/2 thick. I tried poking it with an exact knife to see if it would deflate. No luck.
Since I was already mixing the second batch of resin, I continued on. The second batch did the same thing..
Since 80D has a work time of 4 minutes, I refrigerated the resin for 30 minutes and heated the mold halves for 15 minutes in an oven at 140 degrees (confirmed temp with an IFR temp gun). I also dusted the mold with baby powder, not much just a little bit.
I've never seen this before. I suspect it was caused by the heat in the mold. The 80D was about 6 months old but no more than that.
