Hello all, this is my first post and first time wanting to experiment with molding. Asking for some advice and tips. I'd like to mold some interior plastic pieces with the largest piece being over 2ft x 2ft I worry that the center section would sag and cause a flat spot in that mold, the base would be fine with whatever material just the top mold would need to be lighter I assume or have some type of rigid backing? Could I place a sheet of plywood over the top mold while it's curing? Would the silicone stick to it permanently? I'd also like to reproduce tail light lenses, anyone have experience with what material to use that will hold up to uv and the elements? Same with the interior plastic pieces, what type of material should I use to make them that's good in the elements and uv? I know the original interior pieces are abs. Would a resin be better? (Probably easier to work with, but not sure of the durability and uv degradation) I've got lots of questions and hope someone can help, I really appreciate it!!

The High Strength series should be stiff enough to hold it's form for a larger mold but you can also put some kind of support in the middle if you need it. Also the top mold won't need to be "lighter" as as the bottom mold should hold the weight of the top easily but having something of a rigid backing around the whole mold is always a good idea "just in case". The only thing silicone will stick to permanently is silicone so you should be able to peel it right off after it's cured. Could you attach some pictures of the pieces so we can give more specific help? As to tail lights, Alumilite has some good videos on making them on their youtube channel : www.youtube.com/user/AlumiliteCorporation .
