Hi, first time caster here. :-) I've just completed my first two piece mold of my one good sun-visor clip for my '70 Jeepster Commando and I have hit a snag trying to figure out how much resin to use to duplicate it. It is a very peculiar shape and kind of small. By using a syringe and filling both halves of the mold I've determined it is just under 5 mL in volume. I have nothing that small that has graduations to measure out 2.5 mL per part. I have a digital scale that measure to the 10th of a gram, can I use mL of water to weigh out the required amount of resin in grams, or would there be something kitchen closer to the actual weight of resin? Or better yet does anyone know what the (approximate) weight of RC-3 is per mL? Thanks, Terry

It is sometimes a bit involved to figure out how much mixed resin you’re you will need for different pieces you are casting. Always good to make sure you have a little more than less but you don’t want to waste any either, so the closer you get your calculations the better off you are. Water displacement is used often to figure out the amount of resin you’re going to need...you do this by pouring water into your mold then measure that volume of water. We can't catch all of the water as it is poured out of the mold so make a small adjustment so you have enough. I found these equivalent measurements that may help you Terry, these are appoximates for you... 1ML=1 cc, 30ML=1 ounce, 1 tsp.=5ML IF you chose water displacement you MUST make sure your mold is dry first before pouring in the resin. The resin is a polyurethane resin and it is moisture sensitive in it's liquid state. Another way of figuring out the volume of resin will take a little bit of math. You will need to measure the inside of your mold cavity and figure out the volume. On our home page is a calculating volume formulation; www.alumilite.com/store/pg/12-Volume-Calculator.aspxHappy Holidays Terry. Warmest Regards, Carol

Not knowing at the time that 1 tsp. = 5mL (Thank you!) I couldn't measure that small of an amount of water, I finally remembered and found a large 20mL animal syringe in my tool box and determined the fluid volume (5mL). But still couldn't measure out that small amount of resin without sacrificing my syringe, then I actually realized I could weight the original part to get close to the needed resin amount. The rest was easy using my digital scale that goes to 1/10 of a gram. The shape is way too convoluted to use math to get accurate results. Here's a link to the parts I made with RC-3. drive.google.com/file/d/1tJ1ENT8JWNNDCydJCLkT7Pi--Xwpdwi8/view?usp=sharingThanks, -Terry
