I like to make hard candy and gummies and want a lot of shapes that seem to not be readily available except for custom made molds so I thought it would be nice to make those kinds more available by making them. And the smaller shapes are better in a multi cavity mold (since you normally wouldn't make just one small piece of hard candy at a time), so those are the kind I want to do. I could just make a bunch of small molds but it's a pain to have to search for and pull out six molds when a single, 6 cavity mold is easy to find. So those are the kind I want to make - custom, multi cavity candy molds.
Now my problem is that I want to permanently affix multiple castings in a designated mold box to make custom food safe candy molds. I know you can hot glue resin in a mold box but as these are going to be made to sell the castings, they need to stay in place and hot glued castings usually pull up (no matter how careful you are) when you take out the finished mold. Google has not been my friend on this and my experiments usually end up with me having to re-glue at least half of the castings. The food grade silicon will be the liquid kind and here's one that I made before - the white trees are the castings I hot glued into a box and all but two still came out with the orange mold when I removed the orange candy mold. Please ignore the blurry-ness, I didn't use my good camera for the picture but you get the idea at least.
So I just want to be able to pull out the mold box (with the castings already in it and ready to go) and just have to pour in the liquid silicone to make the candy molds. I need to be able to make the castings stick to the mold box bottom in some way that they will not come off when I carefully flex/pry up the mold out of the box. Hot glue doesn't do well and my experiment with Super Glue ended up with just Super Glue on the castings (which I had to then toss) and they never made it into the box.
I almost need to have the castings and mold box bottom as one piece (maybe the same type of material poured at two different times?). But it needs to be something that can handle a little flexing to release the candy mold part. Anyone have any idea of what I could use as the casting material or glue for the castings that would do this?
