I’m in the process of making a retirement box with a shadow box inside for a veteran. On the outside I’m placing several photos that will have clear cast over them, my question is do I coat the entire front with the clear cast which I’m sure I do or just the photos? Also when I apply the cast how thick should it be? Thank you for your time and asvice. This is my first project, the measurement of the area is 31’’ , 16’’ thanks again.

Is there a frame around the pictures? If you have a frame, I'd go half way up the depth of the frame. But it sounds like there aren't any frames around the pictures so I'll advise for that. You can brush the Clear Cast over top of just the pictures but I'd be sure to do that before you put them in the box unless you plan on filling up the entire bottom of the box with the Clear Cast.
As to how thick, I'd go with how many layers you feel like doing. At least one or two should be fine but if you don't like how that many look/feel to you then add more.
Any chance you can show us some pictures of it? I'd love to see the project especially since it's honoring a veteran.
