I bought the kit right before Christmas, and it’s been on a shelf in a closet ever since. It was never opened, and my house is kept at 72 degrees. It’s definitely not humid in upstate ny this time of year, but the air in my house also isn’t excessively dry (I’m really not sure how either could affect the catalyst, but I’m guessing it could be relevant).
I’m sad because I’ve intended on buying a mold making kit for a really long time, and I finally managed to remember to do it. I don’t know what could have gone wrong, but it’s unopened and unusable.
Can I dissolve it somehow without ruining it? Is it better to buy a smaller kit because the catalyst tends to arrive already crystallized or will inevitably crystallize soon after bottling at the factory? Or is it supposed to have some sort of shelf life, so that purchasing the larger size isn’t a waste in the event that you want to try to learn how to make molds or use the kit on several occasions?
I realize I sound incredibly uninformed, but the reality is that I am. I was so excited to try this stuff out this morning, and now I wish I had at least opened it back in December. I’ll never know if it arrived this way or not, but if it didn’t, I have no idea how or why or even when this did happen, or if it’s to be expected with this kind of material.
Thank you so much for any help!!

No, you cannot restore the catalyst to its original condition. There was some bad catalyst that ended up in some kits last year and yours sounds like one of them. Please give Carol at Alumilite a call at 1 800 447 9344 (M-F reg bus. hrs.) reference the issue with the catalyst...tell her that I sent you. Your patience on this matter is appreciated.
The catalyst does need to be shaken every so often ,even if your not pouring, to keep it from separating and crystallizing.

To the OP.....I had the same thing happen. And thanks to Brian, I contacted Alumilite and spoke to Kendra. She is going to ship another 1 oz bottle of catalyst to me. Thank you Brian and thank you Kendra at Alumilite for your amazing customer service!!
