I read on the main Alumilite site that Slow Set 7 has a heat deflection temperature of 140 deg F. Can anyone tell me what the heat *resistance* of Slow Set 7 is?
My aim is to add Sculpey (polymer clay) to a resin project, and in order to cure the Sculpey it needs to be baked at 248 deg F (120 deg C). I know there are some higher temp epoxy resins out there, but I have the Slow Set 7 and want to know whether I can just use that.
Thanks, Chris

I've used polymer clay to augment parts made of AlumiRes (which is heat stable to 197F I believe). So what I got was a smelly oven and a resin part that had sagged a little, but I was able to then make a silicone mold of the resulting hybrid part to then cast resin copies. Not pretty, but in the past few months I've sold probably $50,000 worth of products this ugly compromise allowed me to produce.

I've always been able to add Sculpey to RC-3 and Amazing Clear Cast Plus and while I do air out the oven afterwards (like I always do when baking clay), I haven't had either one soften or deform and that's baking them at 275 for the full 15 minutes. Slow Set 7 should work the same as RC-3 so you shouldn't have any problems.
If it deformed and you can sell it like that, then I'd say you came out to the good and it was a good "mistake".

Thank you for the useful info!
I use a dedicated putty oven (a small toaster oven) which I use exclusively for baking sculpey and fimo, and regularly mix Apoxie or Green Stuff with my sculptures. The epoxy putties bake fine in the oven, so I am just wondering about the urethane resin(s).
I have two or three layers of aluminum foil on the baking tray, and have two upturned aluminum pans that I use to cover a piece with while baking, this protects my pieces from the direct heat of the oven's elements, which does seem to help.
What I'll do is a test bake with some resin pieces, and see what result I get.

You're welcome and please do share the result as it's something I haven't tried so I'd like to know how it works. I use a single layer of foil on the pan (dedicated pan) but that's all.
