I made molds using Amazing mold rubber, i bought some perfectly smooth ball bearings so i could make spheres of resin. I cleaned the ball bearings and allowed them to dry, made the molds, but my resin pours in the molds are coming out with a frosted look to them and a bit tacky.
Thoughts? I bought the mold rubber hoping for a clear marble like finish on my spheres.

Angel,
Your original needs to be high gloss, high sheen, or polished. Silicone is not forgiving ... it give you what you give it Angel. It is great for picking up detail, finish, texture, perfections and imperfections on an original. If the original is matte finish it will create a matte finish mold, the replicas will then be matte finish. You say a frosted look, are you using the clear?
It being a bit tacky is typically not a mold issue. Typically that has something possibly to do with the measuring or mixing of the product. In thinner pieces an assist for the exothermic resin helps by warming the mold to 140F is recommended. (Warm the mold prior to putting the resin in!)
Have a very Happy Halloween Angel.

Carol

Did you put any mold release or anything on the smooth, shiny pieces? When you cast the clear resin in the molds, are the parts frosty in appearance? Can you send pictures to world(at)alumilite(dot)com
thx, Mike
