I am attempting to make a vacuum chamber/distiller. I'm looking for a silicone I can use to create an airtight seal with. It will essentially be a large cooking pot with a Pyrex bowl that will rest on top. I need to create a seal where the bowl meets the top rim of the pot. I will put a vacuum to the pot so the gasket will need to be "stuck" to either the glass Pyrex or the rim of the stainless steel pot. And since I'll be distilling ethanol, It will need to be both ethanol and food safe. I've searched the web and YouTube, but when you type in the keywords "silicone", "glass" you get a bunch of guys trying to make aquariums with silicone caulk... It's maddening! Any help will be much appreciated! TIA!

....This is a tough one. Anything food safe would eventually be broke down by the Ethanol and anything that I would highly recommend for use with Ethanol has not been classified as food safe... the same silicone that I would use for assembling/repair work on a either a gas or diesel engine.
I'm thinking out loud here...Is there a pressure cooker that could be made to work? Remove the pressure gauge and tap that fitting for your vacuum line perhaps?

Any number of RTV gasket material formulas should work. Probably have to replace it every time the lid is removed, but it's not overly expensive. A 3 oz tube of Permatex, available in most hardware and home improvement stores should do the trick, or check stores that specialize in BBQ grills/smokers - they usually carry food safe RTV's for sealing cheaper smokers (like mine 😜).
