I'm actually liking the fast cure stuff. I make miniatures. In an emergency I can make a quick mold and be pouring parts in 3-4 hours, like this morning. Now that I got the mix ratio down, I'm almost out of this batch. Will have to revert back to the pink stuff. Haha. Maybe its the quick cure stuff they advertised about, that got into the mixed inventory. Hmmm. Makes sense.

Yes it comes in handy when you have a mold with "issues" and have to add a little more here or there to fix it. Most times it's bubbles that have gotten caught in the fast curing that I have to fix and it's the fast curing that fixes them. Right now it seems to be limited to the 1lb containers as my last 5lb one was of the regular long curing set but the last two 1lb containers were fast curing. I go through so much of HS-3 and Plat that I go for the 5lb and 10lb sets whenever I can.

I just mixed a batch today and had the same issue. It's from a box I purchased, from hobby lobby, back in January. My compressor had been down waiting on back ordered parts since then. So once I fixed that, I started my usual process. I don't do.multiple pours from the same batch. I use a nice quart measuring container, and mix it all at once. It usually flows very smoothly and I can get about 8 of my small molds poured in minutes and then into the pressure pot to cure at pressure. This time however, the first 2 or 3 poured fairly well, but then it got so clumpy that I don't think those last 2 will turn out well. Wort part is there was probably enough silicone left in the measuring cup to do atleast 1 more mold, but it had gone to a sticky jelly consistency. I had only been working for maybe 15 minutes total from mix to end of pour. I have attached a picture of what the remainder in the cup looked like after.

You have to call Alumilite at (269) 488-4000 for a special order - talk to someone in Sales. They'll get a replacement out to you quickly but be sure to let them know it's because of a catalyst curing too fast as there is no charge for that. I've gotten ahold of some like that and can work around it but that only works for doing small molds one at a time and when it comes to having to do more, I just grab a bottle of spare catalyst I keep on hand for just these times.

I had the same thing happen to me. I had purchased some kits from Hobby Lobby. The stuff started curing extremely fast. I took it out of the vacuum tank and by the time I tried to pour my second small mold it was already setting up. I contacted alumilite and they were very friendly and sent me a replacement of a 2lb kit of plat 10. I love platinum over tin based silicone any day of the week. The trouble is certain flexible clear resins that I have formulated require tin based silicones. If I try to pour the stuff into molds made out of platinum rubber it has cure inhibition and the parts will remain tacky. I need to order some more hs3 or hs2 but I don't want that rocket catalyst and the stuff setting up on me quickly. Does anyone know if this issue has been corrected now? Thanks in advance.

I think it has in the 5lb tubs (I'm going to order more soon) but the best way to tell if it has the rocket fuel catalyst is if the catalyst isn't pink. If you open it and the inside is white, don't use it. They've got in some extra help now so it should be right but if it isn't then just give them a call and get some of just the catalyst.
