Hello, I have a new bottle of performance 80, I mixed a batch and poured in the mold with out degassing just to see what it would do as well as cleaning out a new mold. It came out with bubbles as expected. I discarded it and the new mold worked well. So I mixed another batch of performance 80 and put it in my chamber for degassing. In about 1 min the mixture foamed to the top of the cup and did not release. I took it out to find that I had cured foam. the cup was quite hot.
I used exactly 20cc of part A and B, unsure of the issue I decided to degas part A and B individualy. Well at that point my day was over my trusty vacuume chamber imploded.
So I still have the mistery of the foaming 80D and need a new chamber to boot.
Any ideas on the foaming?
Thank you, Scott Linesweststructures llc

Scott,
I am sorry you lost your equipment but glad no one was hurt.
The foaming is typically caused by moisture. That can be by humidity while in use, or caps not on tightly when stored and moisture permeated the resin. If there were moisture in the chamber, or possibly a dye/filler was used in the resin, or anything that would introduce moisture. Fillers can contain or absorb moisture sometimes, when moisture is involved it will cause polyurethane resin to bubble or foam.
Regards,
Carol

It may be that the room is to humid, I was just surprised that it happened as fast as it did. The time span from opening to degassing was approx. 1 hour. I had some regular that was about 8 months old that worked fine (after a little time heating up part B). Is the 80D just more prone to collecting moisture? My vacuume chamber and my pride are both on the mend, My new parts should be here in a couple of days. !/2 lexan this time instead of 1/4. I guess I'm lucky I got the two years of service from it that I did. Thank you for your reply, Scott

Scott,
Moisture can be a killer and yes it does happen quick! ALL urethanes are moisture sensitive, I don't think the 80D is more prone than any of the others.
Glad your pride is on the mend and 1/2" is better!
Nice to hear from you again Scott, you are most welcome for reply!
Regards,
Carol
