Hello forum members and moderators.
I'm new to this mold making/casting parts world. I want to make a mold and cast a couple of spare parts for a vintage car I have. the gauge bezel is the part I want to duplicate. It's about 18 inches long, 4 inches wide and 2 inches deep. It needs a 2 part mold. The part I want to duplicate has many complex shapes, is a little brittle and made of plastic.
Which products should I use for making the mold, which products to use for the poured plastic itself and which clay should I use?
Any other useful tips would be appreciated. Thanks, Bill

The HS (High Strength) series would be good for the mold and the Alumilite Clear resin would be good to replace the plastic part as it's very strong and if you do it right - nice and clear. Now as to clay, I don't use it in my molds (except as a baked clay casting as I don't like having to work so hard to clean up). I use Remelt instead. If your plastic can withstand a little warmth, I'd go with it instead as it's easier to clean off than clay. You do need to be sure to put some kind of release agent on the seam between the two layers when you pour the first half (and then between the second half and the first half).

Thanks for the product tips. In looking at my part, I think the remelt might be a good choice. I spent time looking at product literature. It doesn't seem the finished parts can be painted. What I really need to do is have the finished parts plastic chromed. I saw they have brush on coloring options like bronze but not chrome. A chrome finish would be perfect for my product.
