Hello,
For years I've been using Smooth On's Dragon Skin 10 med for my projects. I knew there had to be other options, but I only just found Alumite. I've noticed that it's yellow and while I don't love that, I can use it for some projects.
So... the price point for the Plat 10 vs DS 10 is notably different. Why? What are the practical differences?

I use the Plat 25 so I'm going to answer based on that viewpoint and hope it helps. As for price, that I can't answer as that is usually set depending on the manufacturer's specs and material costs.
The formula for the Plat 25 has recently changed, it's no longer yellow and white so I would assume the Plat 10 also has changed colors. The Plat 25 is now more of a "clear-ish" or more transparent color and cures to a "frosted glass" look. If you look at the pictures of the Trans series, it's very close to that look. Also I have been told that it can be colored (though I have not tried it yet myself).
Now as for the application verses Dragon Skin med, you'll have to look for similar applications using the Alumilite products (there are some on the website) and compare the applications to get a good idea of what might work for you. If you still need help, ask here or give Alumilite a call at 800-447-9344. It may take them a bit to get you an answer but they will get one to you to the best of their abilities.

I realized a bit later that the price as different as I thought. Smooth on prices by volume & Alumilite by weight. So DS sil is ~$190 for a "Gallon unit" (Gallon is 2 g, 1 a & 1b = 16#) Assuming that it's 16# for both A&B, the it seems the costs are not all that different.

Alumilite products are "total weight" too - meaning Side A and Side B combined to make the total weight so be aware of that too. Feel free to ask more questions if you need to and post pictures of your work.
