I have some Amazing Mold Putty that's been sitting around for about a year and I used it last night to make a mold but it set up strangely. It was gummy and wouldn't set wherever it touched the face of the mold, but the rest of it was fine. I could scratch away the first sort of layer of the mold and underneath it was set. I'm trying to cast a 3d printed resin piece from the Form2 that was primed with Army Painter Primer(made for resin figures like Warhammer). I haven't had any of my other silicones react to it like this. Could it be a shelf life issue? Or something in the Primer? I let it set for an hour after mixing really well.

The Amazing Mold Putty is a platinum cure silicone. There are many known chemicals that can cause inhibition in platinum (addition cure) silicones. The platinum can become deactivated by coming in contact with certain chemicals, some adhesives, sulfur clay, oils, these are just to name a few. Once the platinum silicone is inhibited the area of silicone may never cure completely. Those areas that have inhibition may stay runny, sticky, or fluid, depending on the stage of inhibition.
Possibly a shelf life issue how old is it do you know? Platinum cure silicone's as a general rule have 6-9 month shelf life, that is dependent often times on storage temperatures.

Carol
