Looking for someone that would be interested in making a mold for me. I'm trying to restore a 1955 Pontiac wagon. The tail light lenses are almost impossible to find and when found cost a fortune. I have one good lense and would like to have a mold made so that I could make a few to pay for my lenses. Anyone interested? Lense is 4" diameter and 1.5" in height. Attachments:

Let me make sure I'm understanding this correctly - you just want the MOLD itself made? You'll be making the lens yourself correct? That looks like it would be a fairly simple two piece mold and not to take any work/income from someone who wouldn't mind making it, that looks like a mold you could do yourself cheaper rather than have someone else do it for you. Unless you don't have the time and/or the work space for it.
Now I'm speaking as one who is making candy molds and offers the option of making a custom mold of something the buyer has and wants a mold made of. For someone like me here's what the cost breakdown would be:
1) you would have to mail me the lens (which you would pay for) 2) you would have to pay for the amount of mold material used and a liquid type like High Strength 2 or 3 would probably be best 3) once the mold is made then you'd have to pay to have both the mold and the lens shipped back to you.
That's three things that you would have to pay for, are you absolutely sure you really want to do that? It would take the majority of a 1lb box of HS-3 which is easy to work with and easy to get ahold of plus isn't that expensive to buy. Now if you don't mind those three costs, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to find someone who wouldn't mind doing a mold for you.
Personally, I wouldn't mind doing it but I don't have any HS-3 on hand at the moment and it would take me a bit of time to get some in and you might have a deadline you need the mold by. Now if you don't mind waiting until I can get some in, I would only charge you a little over the cost of a box of HS-3 and the shipping to and from.

I'd like to have a set of lenses done in the mold that would be made as well. Having stuff shipped to Alaska that does not fit into flat rate or company won't use a flat rate USPS box adds so much to the overall cost. There's no such thing as ground for FedEx or UPS up here. It all goes by air for those two. I can ship the lenses to someone in a flat rate box. All can be shipped flat rate back.

Casper,
If you have not made a deal with someone to do your lenses (as there are many qualified and knowledgeable people in here who can do it) please give me a call as there are people I can refer you to who do lenses also.
Warmest Regards,
Carol
