Hi guys, I am looking to create a small scale model of a piece from the hannibal tv show, the piece is referencing to a body that has been 'displayed' on antlers in the form of blunt force trauma, if you're familiar with the show you''l know what I'm on about. Anyway I want to create the body out of silicone and have it rest upon sculpted antlers, I have an amateur understanding of mold making and casting, dabbled in some vinyl toy making an such but I am lost when it comes to producing something for silicone. My questions are - 1. What would be the best thing to sculpt the master out of? 2. How do I go about making a mold, Materials and process? The reasoning for the silicone piece is that I want to try out some hair punching/silicone painting and I think the fleshy feel will work wonders, my understanding of the process from seeing process photos from other peeps is that the initial master is made with chavant clay then molded with plaster, something feels wrong about those steps though. Any help would much appreciated, it seems impossible to find anything on this subject other than life casts.

TweakedandTwisted,
I have never seen the show, sorry! We carry a sculpting clay, Super Sculpey however it is in 1-2 lb. sizes. There are many sculpting clays (chavant clays)in larger volume then what we have at your local hobby, craft, or art stores I would think probably for a less expensive initial cost to you Tweaked.
You stated you want to pour your piece out of silicone... remember silicone wants to and will bond to itself without a rubber to rubber mold release if a two piece mold (which I am assuming is the case) is done. Another mold making material like plaster used for the mold would be much less expensive and not a bonding issue. We also have Flexible Urethane's (several durometers) for making the body, however if you pour that into anything but silicone as a mold you would need a silicone release, as it is a urethane...urethane bonds to everything but silicone.
There are people who make pieces like this and do mold making of course for a charge, if you are interested I can give you a couple places to check with if you would like to call us.
Have a great day!
Warmest Regards,
Carol
