Hello, I’m using Clear to cast in a rectangle mold 7x10 x1”thick. The pour fills all the corners, but when the Clear starts to set, the four corners start shrinking and rounding off. Any suggestions to keeping the mold corners square?

Das,
It is the size of the piece that is creating this much linear shrinkage, which draws in at the corners first. In order to stop that you would have to pour it in thinner layers or fix by just re-pouring into the rounded corners in the container. If you elect to pour into the corners you possibly may have some witness marks of the pour especially if it is done completely after the first part is totally cured. It would best to do the re-pour when you first part is still warm. That size also creates a lot of exothermic reaction in that amount of resin. Are you using the Alumilite Clear Slow or Alumilite Clear?
Regards,
Carol

Hi Carol, thanks for the response. I’m using Alumilite Clear. What height/thickness is recommended to not get the linear shrinkage?

First of all Das, I think I would go to the Alumilite Clear Slow... Probably 1/4" in thickness should work with the Alumilite Slow Clear.

Carol
