I am a real green newbie here.
Can anyone suggest how to create a mold to cast plastic to make replacement fins for lawn darts? I have some broken flights on my set and would like replace them. You cannot buy these anymore since they were banned years ago.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

I have some of those and am old enough to remember playing with them. The way they were meant to be used that is. Now when you say "flights", do you mean the plastic fin part itself? If so, then you could almost get away with using a one piece mold as those are pretty flat but I would probably make a two piece one like they do for making soft plastic fishing lures. Google how to make fishing lures or hit the Makelures.com part of the Alumilite website line - there should be some good videos and/or info on how to make a plastic lure which is pretty similar to what you want to do. I would think that High Strength 2 or 3 would be what you might want to use for the mold material. I think I'd go by the video of the lure that's one piece with a slit in the top but that is just what I'd do, you do what best fits what you want. Hope that helps or at least gives you a starting point.

cleotishaywood,
I will date myself by saying... yes I remember playing lawn darts (jarts) they were so much fun, but needed to be used with care.
Notoes is right on looking at all the videos and reading the TDS (technical data sheets) on the product that you intend to use for any project. It can be very helpful and informative, helping to have a successful mold or cast. I think the Soft Plastic may be too soft but you can read up on it. The resin I would look at would be the Flexible Urethane (under casting resins). The durometers are from 30 to 80, the lower the number the softer the plastic. In this case the durometer to test would probably be the Flex 70 or 80. Yes Notoes, if it is a 2 piece mold the HS2, if you are going to attempt a 1 piece mold the HS3. The mold (glove mold) with the slit in the top probably would be the one I would choose too.
Warmest Regards,
Carol
