Good morning everyone.
I am completely new to this site and need some general help before I buy products.
I am going to take some beach rocks and polish them in a tumbler. Then I want to cast them in a cube 3 or 4 inches in a square mold. I want to make it look like the rocks are floating, so I think I will have to do in in multiple layers because if I add all the rocks at once, they will simply sink to the bottom. I want that crystal clear look but am concerned about the bubbles and if there will be a visible line between layers. So, what advise can you give me. Thanks in advance and take care. Good question and its a lengthy answer. Might be better to call in to discuss the entire process if you are able. Simply call us a 800 447-9344 and we can help you out but let me overview the process.
You need something to make a mold off of that is the size and shape of what you are looking for in your solid square and it needs to be perfectly shiny. Then we make a mold off of that. I'd recommend our Plat 25. You will also want to pressure cast that as you will need to pressure cast your resin to make sure all the bubbles and minimized so you will never see them in your finished casting. Yes, you will want to pour it in layers. To minimize the chance of seeing the layers, we recommend making sure to wet out the side walls during your first pour. The lining on the sidewalls will mask the layers.
Its not the easiest project to start with as a newbie but we are happy to help walk you through the process.
Mike
