I want to make a mold for a hood ornament that is 5 ¼ long, concave, smooth on one side and has groves on the under side and will need to be clear so the under side can be painted. What do I need and how do I do it?

I would make a two piece mold using QuickSet or Plat 55 (as long as there were not any major undercuts). Then I would pour the ornament out of AlumiRes RC-3 and then paint.
Items you would need: 1 lb of Plat 55 or QuickSet (possibly 2 lbs if the size requires) 2 lbs of Alumilite's Synthetic Modeling Clay (two clay the first half of the mold up) 1 Corrugated Strip (to make your mold box) *Use Vaseline as mold release between the first and second half of your silicone rubber mold 1 32 oz kit of AlumiRes RC-3 And any dye you may wish to add to the RC-3 to color
thanks, Mike

I'd also recommend using the volume calculator on site to help determine exactly how much you will need.

Hello glpage,
I would like to add a comment or two to Mike's. The RC3 is not a clear resin, you would need to purchase the Alumilite Clear or Water Clear for this application if a clear resin is required. Without de-airing/degassing equipment such as vacuum chamber or pressure pot you could have some air bubbles throughout the cast piece.
Degassing is highly recommended for the Platt 55 as well as the clear products.
Regards,
Carol
