Hi, I'm looking at your products to see what might best suit my needs. I'm looking to print: 6" human figure, and a 3-4" head. They'll be 3d scanned and 3d printed. I'm interested in several materials to cast with: soap, candle wax, and chocolate. What suggestions would someone have as to which silicone to use for mold making?
I'm assuming from the materials I want to cast with, that they'll be quite delicate so it'll be difficult to cast with a 1 piece mold. So I can look into cutting my shape into 2 pieces to make a 2 piece mold. I could even 3d print the halves with walls to make it easier to simply pour the silicone in. Anyone had a similar experience with any of this?
Thanks

Bcoyle,
Good Morning! If you want to cast chocolate, our first suggestion would be to do multiple molds, so you can dedicate one as a food grade mold and not mixing other casting mediums to pour in that mold. You can look at all of the Platts (10,25, and 40 durometers) for the FDA silicone. For soaps and candles, often it is the HS 1 or 2 that is used, along with the urethane resins, Alumilite.
More than likely you can make a two piece mold of your existing master. If you would like to send a picture to us we can look/see what would be a recommendation of silicone to use for your original after seeing undercuts and the configurations involved. You can then use these molds for the soap, candle, and other casting mediums.
Have a great weekend!
Regards,
Carol
