This is my first time using High Strength 3 but I have used other silicones by Alumilite without problems. That being said my problem is that the HS3 seems to be setting but it is sticky and it’s been 60 hours. I followed all the instructions correctly. It’s the consistency of a thick paste right now.

I have had the same issue with HS 3 before in the past. What ended up working for me was to go an extra Gram or 2 more than what was required of the catalyst. Keep in mind that it is 10:1 ratio by weight....as I have stated before and I'll say it again, if you don't have a digital scale that measures in Grams, you need to get one. Keep us posted on your results

Kaz,
Brian you are right... if it is way off ratio you will be left with a tacky mold. Sometimes if it exceeding (rarely) the shelf life by a long time (shelf life roughly 6-8 months) there could be an issue but not often the case, unless it were very old.
A thick paste... does it still move if you tip the mold box, or is it just tacky? How big is the mold box and are their white striations or is a solid pink color?
Regards,
Carol

So after 3 days it finally set but was still sticky. To remedy this I applied some baby powder(cornstarch) and now it’s no longer sticky. My next molds I used more catalyst than asked for and they came out better, set faster and were just slightly sticky when done. I think the problem was a mix of old product and not enough catalyst. The molds are totally usable so I’m happy. My legos just needed extra time and effort to clean off all the greasiness. Thanks for the replies.

Kaz,
I think you are right as far as the reason for the tackiness, the catalyst was probably slowing down. Powder works great for picking up the residue on the silicone and making them usable with out the tackiness.
Well done! I am glad things are working for you now Kaz.
A wonderful day to you.
Warmest Regards,
Carol
