Hi everyone, I've built my own vacuum chamber and it seems that I can't make it work properly. I need to degas high viscosity silicone. Everything seems to be working fine but I can't get the silicone to completely inflate and collapse like it should. I can only get to the point where the silicone gets foamy and full of small bubbles and then nothing else happens even if I leave the pump on for 20+ minutes. See photos. I started with a 4 CFM pump only to realize that it was not strong enough. Then I changed it for a 7 CFM without much more results. And now I changed it again for a 14 CFM and I am still stuck at the same point more or less. So now that I've pretty much ruled out the pump factor I'm kind of desperate and looking for answers that could explain what is happening. My chamber is a 22 quarts presto with an acrylic sheet cover. Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks! Manuel

What is the silicone you are using, it is hard to tell from the picture Manuel. If you leave it under vacuum for 20 minutes, it obviously has a long open time. What are you reaching on your gauge, 29"?

Hi Carol,
I changed my pump again and now I reach 29"+ and the silicone inflates and collapses but I still get a lot of bubbles afterwards.
I use TRANS 40. Is there a specific way to degas this silicone?
Also. I'm trying to mould silicone parts with a mould made of the same silicone and they end up fusing with each-other every time. What kind of of release would you recommend to avoid this? Ideally foodsafe.

I'm really struggling to degas Transil 40-1. No matter how strong the pump or how long I degas it for I also can't get the silicone to collapse after bubbling. It's frustrating.

Manuel,
Couple questions ... Are you curing it under pressure OR after you degas it, pulling it out, then pouring it, then allowing it to cure at room temp?
