Can I use a cured urethane resin for one part of a two part mold with Alumilite Water Clear or will the casting resin not release from resin mold? I am trying to replicate some glass headlight lenses but remove the inner fluting from the replica castings, the fluting is on the inside so I have no problem using silicone for the outer half but if I use silicone for the inner half I will end up voids in the mold (where the flutes in the glass are), with the urethane resin mold I can sand them out, can't really sand silicone, or maybe you can suggest another product to use. Also how would Alumilite Water Clear react with the mold if it were painted (becomes much easier to get a smooth finish to the urethane resin part if I can primer, wet sand and clear coat it).

You can pour urethane into urethane (Water Clear into a urethane mold) however you MUST use mold release. I'd recommend our Stoner Urethane Mold Release.
Also, you must make sure there are no negative drafts that would lock the part onto the mold.
Yes, you can use paint however it may come off occasionally with the Water Clear which causes more problems for the next casting so I would not recommend it unless you do some testing and find that it will not come off. And YES you must use mold release on top of the paint to ensure it does not try to bond to the Water Clear casting.
